Understanding Finance

Many managers do not understand financial information, or realise the financial implications that their decisions have on the business. However, if they are to make informed decisions that build real value they need to be able to monitor and interpret financial information from their own business as well as that of their customers and competitors. This highly participative course examines the key drivers that are crucial to running a business profitably and incorporates a business simulation that will demystify the accountant's jargon and explain the essentials of business finance.

Is this course right for you?

This 2 day course is designed for anyone who takes decisions that impact on revenue and/or costs within the business, particularly managers with little previous financial knowledge and sales teams needing to focus on profitable business.

Once the course is complete you should be able to:

  • Understand and interpret key financial information within the Profit and Loss accounts and Balance Sheets
  • Understand the key drivers of financial value
  • Recognise the importance of cash flow and how to manage working capital
  • Make better informed business decisions
  • Work more effectively with the Finance department.

How is the course conducted?

The course conducted as a 2 day workshop session held at MaST's CBD location. The session is engaging and stimulating yet relevant to the audience in both style and content by including role plays, continual opportunities for discussion, and activities. Participants are encouraged to bring along a current project to use in practical applications.

Our workshop groups are limited to 10 participants (a minimum of 6 is required), to ensure opportunities for individual attention and an enhanced learning experience.

You will be provided with a comprehensive course manual, access to MaST's post-course online resources, and ongoing telephone support from the team at MaST.
